Ricci Weekender Festival was born in 2018 as a collaboration between Mercati Generali, Gilles Peterson and Ed Wilson. The first one is an established club active in Catania since 1998, while Gilles Peterson is the recognised DJ Broadcaster on BBC Radio 6 and Worldwide FM, and Brownswood Recordings’ owner, and Ed Wilson, the owner of the restaurant Brawn in London. Their love for music, food and natural wine brought them together to found Ricci Weekender, merging the cultural delights of Sicily with an international selection of upcoming and established artists. Since its first edition, Ricci Weekender has hosted many prominent artists from the jazz and experimental music scenes such as Floating Point, Kokoroko, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Nu Guinea, animating the beautiful locations of the city of Catania like Palazzo Platamone and Radicepura. This year, Ricci Weekender will reach its fourth edition, more info will be announced soon.
